Stories are everything
This website has been created as a platform for people to view and submit real stories because stories really are everything.
When we share a memory we are exposing our humanity and allowing people to connect with what we have to say. Stories have the power to change people but that’s not always their purpose. They can promote understanding, reflection or even disagreement and discontent. We have no way of knowing what a story will invoke before we share it.
When I was 14, a former refugee from the Sudan, Adut Dau Atem, shared her story of struggle and resilience with me. What has come from that one sharing of her real life experience has been an insight into the power of real stories and how they can enlighten, inspire and even move and shake us to act.
6 years later the two of us have launched Youth for UNHCR and magnified the reach of many many refugee stories. The impact of this experience and the inspiration of studying at the Australian Film Television & Radio School has motivated me to explore, develop and produce new ways to access and share real stories.
So, welcome to Stories are Everything. Our current StoryStarter is encouraging people to share their happiest moment but the StoryStarter will change regularly so keep coming back and keep sharing.
